AIB Group is
Ireland's leading banking and financial services organisation. It
operates principally in Ireland, Britain, Poland and the USA. It employs
more than 24,000 people worldwide in more than 800 offices. The group
operates through four main divisions.
AIB Bank ROI
Division
The AIB Bank ROI Division,
with total assets of €66.2bn as at December 31st 2006, encompasses the
Groups Retail and Commercial Banking Operations in Ireland, Channel
Islands and Isle of Man. AIB Finance & Leasing, Card Acquiring and Card
Issuing businesses and AIB’s Life and Pensions joint venture with AVIVA
are key elements.
AIB Bank ROI provides
banking services through a distribution network of some 275 locations
(187 branches, 84 outlets and 4 business centres), and in excess of 750
ATM’s.
Branch banking services are
provided through a comprehensive relationship management structure to a
full range of customer segments, including individuals, small and medium
sized businesses (‘SME’s’), farmers and large commercial and corporate
clients. Through the branch network, the division provides a broad
suite of savings and investment products, loans and overdrafts, home
mortgages, payment services and foreign exchange facilities, and also
issues Visa and Mastercard Credit Cards.
AIB also offers
customers a debit card, which is co-branded Laser and Maestro and
secured by the latest CHIP & PIN technology. In addition the division
offers Internet and telephone banking services for personal customers
e.g. view account information, pay bills etc and business customers who
can avail of secure internet banking and a comprehensive cash management
solution, including domestic and cross border payment functionality.
AIB Bank UK
Division (Great Britain & Northern Ireland)
The AIB Bank UK division,
with total assets of €24.6bn as at December 31st 2006, operates in two
distinct markets, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with different
economies and operating environments.
The Northern Ireland
Division operates from 57 full service branches under the trading name
First Trust Bank. The Great Britain Division operates from 32 full
service branches and eight development offices under the name Allied
Irish Bank (GB).
For the seventh consecutive
year AIB ‘GB’ has won the title of “Britain’s Best Business Bank” from
the Forum of Private Business, being ranked top for Customer Service and
maintaining it’s lead over other major banks.
AIB Capital
Markets Division
The activities of AIB
Capital Markets, with total assets of €54.1bn as at December 31st 2006,
comprise Corporate Banking, Global Treasury (with the exception of the
International Banking Services in BZWBK) and Investment Banking, which
includes the asset management and stock broking activities of the Group.
These activities are
delivered through AIB Corporate Banking, Global Treasury, Investment
Banking and Allied Irish America (AIA). From a base in the International
Financial Services Centre in Dublin, almost 3,000 staff provide
international and financial services to Irish and multinational
institutions. The AIA offices are in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia,
Atlanta and Los Angeles.
AIB Poland
Division
Poland division, with total
assets of €7.2bn as at December 31st 2006, comprises Bank Zachodni WBK (BZWBK)
in which AIB has a 70.5 % shareholding, together with its subsidiaries
and associates. (Poland division refers to AIB’s majority shareholding
in Bank Zachodni WBK. The bank formed from the merger of Wielkopolski
Bank Kredytowy based in Poznan and Wroclaw-based Bank in Zachodni).
BZWBK is a
multi-regional retail and commercial bank with a network of 384 branches
and 608 ATM’s and employed approx 7,860 staff, including those in
subsidiaries. It is now Poland’s fifth largest bank. This investment
gives the group access to one of the EU's and Central Europe's largest
economies.
US Regional Banking
Presence
AIB also has a
significant presence in US regional banking with a 24% shareholding in
M&T Bank Corporation, one of the top 20 banks in the US.
